LASG Trains 350+ Quality Assurance Evaluators Ahead of School Resumption
As schools in Lagos State prepare to reopen for a new academic session, the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) has trained more than 350 evaluators to enhance effective monitoring, uphold educational standards, and promote compliance across both public and private schools.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the four-day training workshop in Lagos, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, charged the officials to be firm, objective, yet courteous in their duties. He stressed that evaluators must act as progressive partners with school owners, balancing firmness with friendliness while ensuring the interests of pupils and students remain paramount.
Alli-Balogun reiterated the government’s commitment to raising the standard of education, assuring parents and guardians that adequate measures are in place to guarantee a safe, quality-driven learning environment for children.
The Coordinating Director of OEQA, Mr. Remi Abdul, emphasised professionalism and integrity as the foundation of credible quality assurance. He noted that the workshop—tagged “Strengthening Professionalism and Integrity for Effective Quality Assurance Operations”—was strategically designed to sharpen technical skills, reinforce ethical values, and prepare evaluators to meet emerging challenges in the education sector.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Mohammed Mubashiru Olayiwola Babatunde of Lagos State University commended the government for organising the capacity-building exercise, describing professionalism and integrity as the bedrock of global best practices in quality assurance. He called for periodic policy reviews and international exposure for OEQA officials to benchmark performance against global standards.

The workshop also featured practical sessions, plenary discussions, and facilitation by experts, including retired Permanent Secretary Mrs. Oluwafunmilayo Onadipe, who spoke on ethics, communication, punctuality, and public image.
The event concluded with a goodwill message from the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Opeyemi Eniola, who urged participants to sustain Lagos’ leadership in education standards nationwide.
With this training, Lagos State has reinforced its resolve to position evaluators as models of excellence and integrity, ensuring schools meet the standards that safeguard the future of its learners.
