Ogun PDP Will Field God-Fearing Candidates in 2027, Says Tella
…Party Leadership Reaffirms Independence, Internal Democracy
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Dr. (Hon.) Abayomi Tella, has declared that the party will field only credible and God-fearing candidates in the 2027 general elections, as it intensifies preparations to reclaim power in the state.
Dr. Tella made this known after a State Working Committee meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Abeokuta on Thursday. He assured members and supporters that the Ogun PDP remains united, fully mobilised, and determined to emerge victorious at the polls.
“Under my leadership, the party is focused on reclaiming power and restoring responsible governance in our state,” he said. “The PDP remains firmly committed to the principles of internal democracy, fairness, and transparency.”
He emphasised that all aspirants would be given a level playing field, noting that the party’s primaries would be open, credible, and conducted strictly in line with the party’s constitution.
“No position is reserved for anyone. All members are equal in the party,” Tella stated, urging aspirants to consult widely within their constituencies as part of the democratic process. He also charged party leaders across the state to prioritise the interests of the people over monetary considerations in the selection of candidates.
“Mannerless individuals should not become our candidates in the 2027 elections,” he added, stressing the need for integrity and moral character in public office.
Addressing speculation about external influence within the party, the chairman dismissed claims that the Ogun PDP is under the control of any individual.
“This narrative is completely false. Our party is driven by collective leadership and the will of its members, not by personal influence. Every member contributes to the growth and development of the party,” he said.
Tella reaffirmed that no ticket has been allocated as a personal entitlement and that every qualified and committed member is free to aspire to any office.
He assured that the State Working Committee would uphold transparency and fairness throughout the primary election process.
He further warned that the party would not tolerate indiscipline, noting that any member found acting contrary to the party’s constitution or undermining unity would face appropriate sanctions.
Calling on supporters and residents of Ogun State to remain hopeful despite prevailing economic challenges, Tella criticised the policies of the All Progressives Congress at both the state and national levels, describing the 2027 elections as a historic opportunity to redirect governance.
“Together, we will rebuild Ogun State and restore the confidence of our people in leadership,” he concluded.
