Ezeani Ugwudike John-Greg Ezebuadi emerges Chairman, Council of Ndindu Ndigbo Lagos state
As part of plans to reorganise Igbo leadership in the Diaspora and in conforming with directives of Southeast Royal Fathers that Igbo Ezes adopt the titles ‘Onyendu as nomenclature’, Ndindu Ndigbo on Friday 27th March held election in Lagos to choose principal officers.
During the exercise, Ezeani Ugwudike Ichida, John-Greg Okey Ezebuadi (Ogboroagha) emerges Chairman, Council of Ndindu Ndigbo, Lagos State.
This development comes after nearly 18 years of prolonged disagreement between the Southeast Council of Traditional Rulers and Igbo traditional leaders in the diaspora over the use of the title “Eze Ndigbo”.
Several interventions by the National Executive Council of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, as well as efforts by governors of Southeast extraction, had previously failed to resolve the impasse.
However, a breakthrough was recently achieved through sustained dialogue and negotiations led by Ezeani Ugwudike John-Greg Okey Ezebuadi, who serves as the President of the Southwest/South-South Zonal Chapter of Eze Ndigbo Nauzoije.
These discussions were held with the leadership of the Southeast Council of Traditional Rulers under the chairmanship of His Royal Majesty, Eze Emmanuel Okeke CFR (EZEIMO), Ezeudo II of Amaifeke, alongside the National Leader, His Royal Majesty Igwe Nnaemeka A.U. Achebe CFR, (AGBOGIDI) Obi of Onitsha, as well as other prominent traditional rulers, including His Royal Majesty Igwe Dr. Amb. Lawrence Agubuzo (OON, CFR), and over one hundred revered monarchs from the five Southeast states.
The final resolution was reached during a crucial meeting at the House of Chiefs, Enugu State Government House. At the meeting, it was unanimously agreed that the six states under the Southwest Zonal Chapter, led by Ezebuadi, would adopt the new title ‘Onyendu Ndigbo’ in place of ‘Eze Ndigbo’, in accordance with the directive of the Southeast Council of Traditional Rulers.
Subsequently, on Friday, 27th March 2026, the first general meeting and election of officers of the newly reconstituted council—Ndindu Ndigbo was held in Lagos State. At the end of the exercise, Onyendu Ndigbo of Iba LCDA, John-Greg Okey Ezebuadi, was elected as Chairman of the apex body of Igbo traditional leaders in the diaspora Lagos State Chapter, now operating with the full backing of the Southeast Council of Traditional Rulers, Southeast Governors, and Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
Other elected officials include Onyendu Nicholas Njoku (Vice Chairman), Onyendu Remy Anyamele (Secretary), and Onyendu Augustine Sunday Ojukwu (Treasurer), alongside other key officers.
In his acceptance speech, Ezebuadi, Ezeani Ugwudike of Ichida, expressed his commitment to fostering unity and strengthening collaboration between the Southeast Council of Traditional Rulers and Igbo leaders in the diaspora. He emphasized his determination to ensure that the aspirations of all stakeholders are realized through mutual respect, cooperation, and progressive leadership.
The election was conducted by High Chief Aloy Obi, the President General NDINDU NDIGBO NAUZOIJE and the results will be sent the Southeast Council of Traditional Rulers for inauguration through the Igbo Diaspora leaders Regularlisation committee under the Chairmanship of Chief Charles Odunukwe OON, (Ijere) OKEMMIRI OF ORUKWU who as established by the Southeast Council of Traditional Rulers.
