The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to credible, transparent, and inclusive grassroots elections as preparations advance for fresh executive polls within Community Development Associations (CDAs) and Community Development Committees (CDCs) later this year.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ interactive session, the Special Adviser on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, urged participants to prioritise genuine commitment over financial influence in community elections. He emphasised that integrity must remain the cornerstone of leadership selection in grassroots governance.

“We must ensure that our community elections are not driven by money but by dedication to service. Strong communities are built by credible leadership,” he noted.

Dr. Agbaje also assured participants that the State Government remains responsive to community requests on infrastructure, water supply, and other social amenities, while encouraging greater youth involvement in CDAs and CDCs to foster innovation and continuity.

Similarly, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, clarified common misconceptions about the CDA Constitution and election guidelines, describing them as the bedrock for ensuring smooth, credible processes.

“This session allows us to correct misunderstandings, provide clarity, and reinforce the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders before, during, and after elections,” she said.

She added that the interactive sessions will be replicated across the five divisions of Lagos State, ensuring wider reach and inclusivity.

The Chairman of Bariga LCDA, Hon. Bulala Omope Adedeji, expressed gratitude to the State Government for integrating CDAs and CDCs into its policies. She pledged continued support at the local level, affirming that Bariga LCDA would prioritise grassroots groups in line with state objectives.

The event concluded with a robust Q&A session where participants sought clarifications on election procedures. A highlight of the forum was a presentation by Mr. Rotimi Owolawi, a community leader, on the topic: “Overview of the CDA Constitution: Purpose, Importance, Scope and Understanding the Rudiments – Actions and Inactions.”

Other dignitaries in attendance included the Vice-Chairman of Bariga LCDA, Prince Babatunde Adeside; Council Leader, Hon. Wasiu Adeleke; Council Manager, Mrs. Balogun Abiodun; Councillors; facilitators; and community representatives.

By reinforcing fairness, credibility, and inclusiveness in CDA and CDC elections, the Lagos State Government continues to strengthen the foundation of grassroots governance and citizen participation across the state.
