President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that his administration’s sweeping economic reforms, implemented over the past two years, are already producing positive results and restoring Nigeria’s standing as a global leader.

Speaking at the State House on Tuesday while receiving His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Oladunni Olaoye (Orumogege III), the Soun of Ogbomosoland, and other royal fathers, the President said decisive actions had stopped years of economic decline.

“Years of neglect, fake records, smuggling, and arbitrage trading had bled the economy dry. We had to take those actions. With your prayers, patience, and perseverance, I’m glad to tell you today that the economy is stabilised. The bleeding has stopped; the patient is alive,” Tinubu declared.

The President highlighted reforms in the foreign exchange market, the removal of fuel subsidy, and the creation of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as key milestones, noting that no Nigerian student should drop out of school due to poverty.

“Education is the greatest weapon against poverty. That is why we established NELFUND. Alongside this, we remain aggressive on infrastructure, even within just two years,” he said.

Tinubu also pledged to engage the Ministers of Power, Agriculture, Water Resources, and Works to address the needs of Ogbomosoland, particularly in agriculture, infrastructure, and public health.

Monarchs Applaud Tinubu’s Courage

The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, commended the President for his bold reforms, saying:
“Removing fuel subsidy was the right decision, and we can already see its impact. The foreign exchange reforms and NELFUND have made life easier for students and businesses alike.”

The monarch further applauded the federal government for awarding the long-delayed Oyo–Ogbomoso Road dualisation project, describing it as a gateway to Northern Nigeria that will boost economic activities. He also urged federal support for Ogbomoso’s hospital upgrade, improved power and water supply, and a research institute for developing the region’s renowned mango and cashew industries.

Oba Olaoye expressed gratitude for the appointments of prominent Ogbomoso sons into federal leadership, including Dr. Zacch Adedeji, Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, and Debo Adedokun, DG of the Bureau of Public Procurement.

The monarch was accompanied by other traditional rulers, chiefs, and community leaders, alongside Chief Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication.
