The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to positioning Lagos as a global hub for tourism and innovation as the State prepares to host the E1 World Electric Powerboat Series, the first of its kind in Africa.

The prestigious all-electric boat race is scheduled to hold from October 3rd to 5th, 2025, on the scenic waterways of Victoria Island. It will bring together world-class teams, celebrities, and sports enthusiasts while showcasing Lagos’ unique aquatic splendour and growing profile as an international destination.

Speaking on the significance of the championship, the Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, described the event as a major milestone for sports tourism in Nigeria.

“We are excited that Lagos has the privilege of hosting this international championship, and we warmly invite everyone across Nigeria to be part of this historic moment,” she said.

According to her, the E1 Lagos GP goes beyond competition, offering an opportunity to project Lagos’ culture, hospitality, and economic vibrancy to the world.

The Commissioner added that the event would boost local businesses, promote investment in the creative and hospitality sectors, and further consolidate Lagos’ position as the City of Aquatic Splendour.

With Lagos joining global cities such as Monaco, Venice, and Jeddah on the E1 calendar, the championship underscores the state’s growing influence in the global tourism and sports landscape.
