Governor Adeleke Visits Akinlalu, Promises Justice Over Amotekun Killings
Governor Ademola Adeleke on Monday paid a condolence visit to the royal father, families of victims, and residents of Akinlalu town in Osun State following the killing of three community members by operatives of the Amotekun Security Network.
The governor, who cut short his medical trip to the United States to make the visit, arrived in the town accompanied by the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi; Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun; Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Teslim Igbalaye; Chief of Staff, Hon. Kazeem Akinleye; members of the House of Assembly, and other top state officials.
Addressing the people of Akinlalu at the palace, Governor Adeleke expressed deep sadness over the incident, assuring residents that those responsible for the killings would be brought to justice.
“I am truly sad. I was in the United States when the unfortunate incident happened. I cut short my medical stay because I needed to be here to empathize with the victims,” the governor said.
“I can tell you the perpetrators will face the full wrath of the law. There won’t be any sacred cows. Any Amotekun officer needed for interrogation must cooperate with the police investigation. I have directed the Amotekun Board Chairman, AIG Wale Abbas (Rtd.), to ensure full cooperation,” he added.
Governor Adeleke also revealed that suspects connected to the killings were already being arrested by the police, urging the community to support the investigation with credible information.
The governor commended the residents for maintaining peace and patience despite the tragedy. He further announced that the state government would compensate families of the victims and fulfill the town’s request for a police station.
“Akinlalu is our town, and the plan of my administration is to fast-track its development. Above all, suspects will face the law,” he said.
Welcoming the governor, the Alakinlalu of Akinlalu, Oba Israel Oluwabusola Aborisade, thanked him for ongoing infrastructure projects in the community and urged him to ensure justice is served.
“Your Excellency, we appreciate this visit. Please secure justice for us. We trust your leadership,” the monarch appealed.
In his remarks, Hon. Oyewusi Ireyode Akinyode, representing Ife North State Constituency, praised the residents for their peaceful conduct, while the Deputy Speaker emphasized that despite the incident, the Amotekun corps remains an important component of community policing.
Earlier, the youth leader of Akinlalu, Musbau Adeboye, expressed appreciation to the governor for the reconstruction of the Akinlalu township road and presented a position paper from the community’s youth. The document called for the immediate suspension of implicated Amotekun officials, transparent investigation, compensation for victims’ families, and the establishment of a police station to enhance security.
