The Lagos State Cooperative College (LASCOCO) has called on cooperative societies across Nigeria to embrace digital innovation, ethics, and sustainability in order to remain competitive in today’s rapidly evolving business environment.

The charge was delivered by the Acting Provost of the College, Dr. Walid Adebosin, at the opening of a three-day advanced capacity-building training programme titled “Future-Ready Cooperatives: Digital Innovation, Ethics, and Sustainability.” The programme, held at the College training hall in Agege, Lagos, was designed to strengthen the competence and efficiency of cooperative managers and trustees.

“In today’s rapidly changing world, cooperatives must evolve to remain relevant, resilient, and sustainable. That is precisely why this training has been designed—to equip you with the knowledge, tools, and practical skills needed to lead future-ready cooperatives,” Dr. Adebosin said.

He noted that cooperative societies remain custodians of a collaborative legacy, contributing significantly to financial inclusion, poverty alleviation, wealth creation, and community stability. According to him, members have entrusted their resources and welfare to cooperative managers and trustees, who must ensure transparency, accountability, and sustainable growth.

Dr. Adebosin stressed that cooperative leaders are stewards of a model that combines economic success with social equity, and therefore must possess advanced competence, ethical grounding, and clarity of vision.

He explained that the training programme is structured to:

  • Equip managers with professional skills to transition from doing tasks to doing them rightly, efficiently, and in line with best practices.
  • Instil an ethical foundation that fosters transparency and accountability.
  • Build societies that are resilient, sustainable, and immune to maladministration.

The Acting Provost urged participants to see their roles not just as administrative tasks, but as a mission to serve and uplift communities through cooperative structures that embody innovation, trust, and good governance.
