Nigerian Army convens First Senior and leadership Seminar 2026 in Port Harcourt
The Nigerian Army (NA) has convened the First Senior Command and Leadership Seminar 2026. The opening ceremony was conducted on 14 April 2026 at Python Officers’ Mess, Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State.

6 Division Army Public Relations, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, who was represented by the Commander, Training and Doctrine Command, Major General Peter Malla, highlighted the importance of continuous professional development. He noted that the initiative aligns with the COAS command philosophy of building a professional, adaptable, and combat-ready force capable of operating effectively in joint and multi-agency environments.
He also appreciated the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his continued support, which he said has strengthened operational capabilities and efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s sovereignty.
Also speaking at the event, the Chief of Training (Army), Major General Valentine Okoro, stated that the seminar represents a deliberate capacity-building initiative designed to strengthen operational-level command and enhance decision-making among senior officers of the NA and the Armed Forces of Nigeria. He added that it provides a valuable platform for professional interaction, cross-learning and the exchange of ideas among senior leaders, while equipping them with the strategic insight required to effectively navigate the contemporary complex security landscape.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, described hosting the seminar as an honour and reaffirmed the Division’s commitment to its success. He noted that the seminar is designed to enhance leadership competence and deepen understanding of contemporary security challenges.
The seminar brought together senior commanders to strengthen strategic leadership capacity, enhance operational judgment, and improve command effectiveness in addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
Major highlights included presentation of souvenirs, group photograph, with lectures and interactive sessions covering operational-level command, counter-insurgency lessons, emerging technologies, regional security frameworks, and special operations.
