United States military cargo planes have begun landing in Maiduguri, Borno State, marking the launch of a new phase of security collaboration between Washington and Abuja.

The first US aircraft touched down Thursday night at the northeastern city’s airport, with more expected over the weekend as around 200 American personnel are gradually deployed.

Officials say the planes—mainly C-17 transport aircraft—carry intelligence analysts, advisers, trainers, and critical equipment. By Friday evening, multiple planes were on the tarmac, with offloading operations already underway at the base.
