WAPA completes another 4 weeks of life skills, economic empowerment training in Lagos
The Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), under the leadership of the Honourable Commissioner, Mrs. Bolaji Cecilia Dada, on Wednesday, hosted the closing ceremony of yet another successful session of the Life Skill Economic Empowerment Programme (LEEP) at the Suberu Oje Central Hall, Iparioda, by Casso, Alagbado.
The four-week short-term empowerment initiative was designed to equip vulnerable women and indigent youth with practical and income-generating skills to promote self-reliance and economic sustainability.
Participants were trained in diverse vocations, including catering, soap making, hairdressing, barbing techniques, bead making, event decoration, and other micro-enterprise trades tailored to local economic opportunities Also, the team of Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) lectured participants on health insurance benefits in the course of their four-week training programme.
In her remarks, Hon. Bolaji Dada, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Rianat Ajibike Onigbanjo, commended the graduates for their commitment to learning and self-development. She also expressed heartfelt appreciation to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his steadfast support and continued prioritisation of women and youth empowerment across the state.

“This administration is deeply committed to lifting our people out of poverty through sustainable empowerment programmes. These skills are tools for transformation, and we are proud to see our women and youth embracing them,” the Commissioner said.
The event witnessed the presentation of certificates and startup packs to the beneficiaries, enabling them to immediately begin their entrepreneurial journey.
This latest closing ceremony continues WAPA’s wider efforts to expand the reach of empowerment opportunities to grassroots communities in line with the THEMES Plus development agenda of the Sanwo-Olu administration – particularly in Social Development and Economic Empowerment.
Community leaders like: High Chief, Taofeek Ajani Subair, Baale of Suberu Oje; Chief Olalekan Erinle, Secretary, Suberu Oje community, Alhaji Tajudeen Shoyemi, Chief Imam, Suberu Oje Central Mosque, directors from the Ministry, and other stakeholders applauded the programme’s impact and urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity.
