COAS charges NACOLM graduates to use skills acquired to fight insurgency
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has tasked graduands of the Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management to use the skills acquired during their training in the College to contribute in combating the current complex security challenges confronting the nation. The COAS who was the special guest of honour at the graduation ceremony of students of Logistics Management Course (LMC) 23, Senior Leadership and Staff Officers Course (SLSOC) 3 and Junior Leadership and Staff Officers Course (JLSOC) 4 all of 2025 gave the charge during his remarks at the ceremony held on 5 December 2025, in Tukur Yusuf Buratai Auditorium at the College permanent site in Ojo Lagos. He described their training as an “important milestone in the collective effort of the Nigerian Army (NA) to build an Army that is adaptive and resilient to operating in complex security landscape such as the one confronting our beloved nation.”
He further charged the graduands to build their individual skills in order to boost operational successes of the NA. The COAS who was represented at the event by the General Officer Commanding 81 Division NA, Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, expressed delight in the students’ completion of the course, noting that the courses were designed with a clear strategic objective to produce sound logisticians who can plan, coordinate and execute effective support as well as to function as Staff Officers at the Brigade, Division and Army Headquarters levels. He disclosed that their training at the College is particularly relevant at a time when the country is facing diverse and evolving security threats ranging from insurgency, terrorism, banditry, oil theft, transnational organized crime among others. He added that the courses were developed to build their knowledge, equipped and prepared them to assume greater responsibilities. He also reiterated the need to increase the existing facilities in the college within the level of available resources to enhance and further expand the scope of training offered by the college.
The COAS appreciated the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for sustaining the Federal Government unrelenting commitment and support to the NA noting that, his continuous support has enhanced the capabilities of personnel of the Armed Forces especially in the theatre of operations across the nation. He assured the President of the NA’s resolve to discharge its responsibilities professionally.
He congratulated the Commandant NACOLM Major General Adewale Collins Adetoba and his team for a successful completion of the courses and graduation of the 3 courses adding that, it is a demonstration of his genuine commitment to the grooming of highly versatile and intellectually sound officers for the NA. He charged the officers to continue to demonstrate a high level of loyalty and discipline in their service to the nation.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Commandant, NACOLM expressed delight over the graduation of the 196 officers from the college. He also commended them for their individual and collective performances during the courses.
The Commandant appreciated the COAS for his visionary leadership and indelible impression on the College adding that, the College would continue to direct, engage and would not rest on its oars towards the realization of the COAS Pillars of Command Philosophy which is “To Advance the Transformation of the Nigerian Army into a more Professional, Adaptable, Combat Ready and Resilient Force Capable of Decisively Discharging its Responsibilities within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment.”
Similarly, the Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies of the College Brigadier General JIB Manjang, while giving the coures highlight disclosed that the students during their training were subjected to months of rigorous academic training which included class room and field trainings, Africa and local tour, as well as wargaming. The students also took part in a combined final exercise nicknamed EXERCISE ISOKAN TOOTO, which means teamwork. The exercise created an avenue for the students to simulate real-life operations, plan, and execute their battle strategies.
Major hilights of the graduation ceremony was the conferment of Fellowship award of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management of Nigeria (CIPSMN) on the Commandant NACOLM by the National President of the Institute, Alhaji Sikiru Oladepo Balogun. As well as the conferment of Passed Senior Leadership and Staff Course and Passed Junior Leadership and Staff Course to graduands of SLSOC and JLSOC, respectively.
The event climaxed with the presentation of certificates and souvenirs to the students and the special guest of honour, as well as the commissioning of WB Etuk Gymnasium at the College RC Duru Sports Complex by the COAS
The graduation ceremony was graced by senior officers both serving and retired, among which were Corps Commanders, Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Directors, Commandants of Training Institutions, as well as members of professional bodies.
