The Lagos State Government (LASG) has produced a new set of Certified Artificial Intelligence Professionals (CAIP) after its social media handlers successfully completed an intensive two-day AI training programme.

The training, certified by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), is expected to enhance the state’s digital presence, deepen citizen engagement, and drive communication efficiency in governance in line with global best practices.

Speaking at the training held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Alausa-Ikeja, the Director of the Social Media Department, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Dr. Olajide Atansuyi, said the programme reflects LASG’s commitment to equipping its workforce with globally recognised digital competencies.

He noted that the newly certified professionals will leverage AI-powered solutions to improve service delivery, streamline communication, and strengthen interaction between government and residents.

“This milestone positions Lagos State to harness artificial intelligence in solving communication challenges, improving governance efficiency, and enhancing residents’ access to government services,” Atansuyi said.

The training, organised by Digital Academy, covered modules such as AI ethics, machine learning for communication, natural language processing for content creation, and AI-driven analytics for monitoring public engagement.

The consulting firm’s team lead, Dr. Achi Celestine, commended the participants’ performance and praised LASG for setting “a new benchmark for digital governance” in Africa.

Some participants described the programme as a “game changer”, pledging to apply the knowledge to advance the Smart Lagos vision.

Deputy Director, Social Media Department, Mr. Francis Obafemi-Ajayi, expressed gratitude for the opportunity, while Assistant Chief Public Affairs Officer, Mr. Ayo Afuwape, highlighted the hands-on sessions as transformative for content creation and fact-checking.

The initiative aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda, particularly the Smart City and Technology-driven Governance Pillar, positioning Lagos as a digital hub in Africa.
