President Tinubu arrives in UAE for 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), ahead of his participation in the 2026 edition of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), which officially opens on Monday.
The President’s aircraft touched down at the Presidential Wing of Zayed International Airport at exactly 11:30 p.m. local time on Sunday. He was warmly received by the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan; the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi; Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar; and members of the Nigerian diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, several Nigerian officials were also present to welcome the president at his hotel. They included the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu; the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Muhammed Muhammed.
President Tinubu arrived in Abu Dhabi from Europe, where he spent part of his end-of-year break holding high-level engagements with Rwandan President Paul Kagame and French President Emmanuel Macron, discussions described by officials as productive and forward-looking.
The 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, themed “The Nexus of Next, All Systems Go,” serves as a global convening platform for world leaders, policymakers, investors, and experts to advance dialogue and concrete action on sustainable development, climate action, energy transition, and inclusive economic growth.
President Tinubu’s participation underscores Nigeria’s commitment to global sustainability goals, while further strengthening the country’s diplomatic and economic relations with the United Arab Emirates and positioning Nigeria as an active voice in shaping the future of sustainable development worldwide.
