The Federal Government on Sunday inaugurated a ₦40 billion Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Security Centre on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos, marking a major step in strengthening surveillance and public safety along one of Africa’s busiest bridges.

The state-of-the-art facility, constructed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), is designed to provide round-the-clock monitoring of the bridge and its surrounding waterways, reinforcing the nation’s critical infrastructure against security threats.

The CCTV centre is equipped with advanced security assets, including a dedicated surveillance boat, additional gunboats, and Hilux patrol vehicles to enhance rapid response capabilities. It also features 240 solar-powered panels, ensuring uninterrupted operations through sustainable energy.

Officials say the integrated system will improve real-time detection of suspicious activities, both on the bridge corridor and beneath it, while supporting coordinated responses by security agencies.

The inauguration underscores the Federal Government’s broader commitment to deploying technology-driven solutions to safeguard strategic national assets, improve traffic safety, and reassure commuters who rely daily on the Third Mainland Bridge as a vital link across Lagos.
