Rumoured Bandit Threat: Badagry Tightens Security with Joint Patrol of Police, NSCDC, Zangbeto, OPC and Others
Badagry, Lagos — Security agencies on Wednesday launched a broad multi-agency patrol across coastal and border communities following rising rumours of a possible bandit attack circulating on social media. The operation was led by the Divisional Police Officer of Badagry, CSP Sesan Agosile, who activated the full security architecture of the area to reassure residents ahead of the festive season.
The joint patrol featured officers from the Nigeria Police, the military, NSCDC, LNSC, the Nigeria Forest Security Service, OPC, local hunters, the Zangbeto traditional security network led by the Zangas, Agbekoya groups, vigilante units, neighbourhood watch teams, and other community security formations.
The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, also supported the exercise. He was represented on the field by the council’s Chief Security Adviser, CSP Johnson Adagba (Rtd.), who accompanied the security teams throughout the patrol.
The combined forces moved through several riverine and border communities under Badagry Local Government, Olorunda LCDA, and Badagry West LCDA, inspecting vulnerable areas, engaging residents, and monitoring activities around key border routes.
CSP Agosile urged residents to remain calm but vigilant, emphasizing the need to report suspicious movements promptly. He advised the public to disregard unverified social-media rumours capable of causing fear and clarified that the ban on fireworks, knockouts, street carnivals, and cult-linked gatherings remains in place to ensure a peaceful festive period.
He added that the coordinated patrol is part of ongoing efforts to deepen inter-agency cooperation and maintain peace across Badagry as end-of-year celebrations draw near.
