TRADOC Promotes Reading Culture Among Troops, Donates 28,000 Books to Schools
The Training and Doctrine Command of the Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA) has reaffirmed its commitment to building a knowledge-driven force through the promotion of reading culture among its personnel. On 16 September 2025, TRADOC hosted its Library Day Study Period at the Minna Military Cantonment, Niger State, with the theme: “Regenerating Knowledge-Based Nigerian Army Personnel in a Dynamic Society for Effective Military Service.”
The programme was designed to strengthen the intellectual capacity of personnel, enabling them to adapt to new technologies, undertake complex tasks, and make informed decisions in modern military operations.

Declaring the event open, the Commander TRADOC NA, Major General Kevin Aligbe, emphasised that libraries remain central to cultivating critical thinking, research, and problem-solving skills within the Nigerian Army. He urged personnel to embrace sustained reading habits to enhance both individual growth and operational efficiency.
“Our operating environment is increasingly digitalised through artificial intelligence and other tools. This reality demands continuous training and a renewed focus on reading culture to keep pace with evolving trends,” Major General Aligbe said.
Earlier, the Director of Army Training Support Centre, Major General Auwal Mahmuda, noted that reviving reading culture is essential for sharpening the minds of personnel in the age of artificial intelligence.
Beyond the military audience, TRADOC extended its educational outreach to schools in the Minna Military Cantonment. The high point of the event was the donation of over 28,000 books and essential learning materials—including rulers, pens, and erasers—to Government Army Day Secondary School, Army Day Children School, Command Children School, and NAOWA Nursery and Primary School.
This marks the third edition of the TRADOC Educational Support Programme since its launch in 2023, reinforcing TRADOC’s drive to support education and youth development in military communities.
