Troops of the 82 Division Garrison, operating under Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Enugu State Command, have recorded a major breakthrough in the ongoing Operation EASTERN SANITY II aimed at consolidating peace and security in the South-East.
According to the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division Nigerian Army, Enugu, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, the operation was carried out on June 9, 2026, following credible intelligence obtained from previously arrested suspects allegedly linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
Ayeni disclosed that security operatives conducted a precision follow-up operation in Gariki, Enugu South Local Government Area, where they uncovered a clandestine arms cache concealed inside a zinc structure disguised as a piggery.
A thorough search of the location led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of arms and ammunition, including General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), an RPG-7 launcher tube, AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, a tear gas launcher with cartridges, AK-47 magazines, 270 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and 478 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
He stated that all recovered weapons and the arrested suspects have been handed over to the DSS Enugu State Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Army spokesman noted that the intelligence-driven operation highlights the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration in countering threats to public safety and national unity in the region.
He added that the success reflects the unwavering commitment of Operation UDO KA to sustaining offensive operations against criminal and terrorist networks seeking to destabilise the South-East.
Reaffirming its resolve to protect lives and preserve national sovereignty, Operation UDO KA urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts toward achieving lasting peace and security in the region.
