Ohanaeze Chieftain, Chief Uzoh, Pays Tribute to Late Eze Ndigbo Lagos, Ohazulike
The former Deputy President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State, Chief Vitus Uzoh, Onwa Obodoukwu, has joined other well-meaning Nigerians in paying tribute to the late Eze Ndigbo of Lagos and pioneer President of the Association of Ndieze Ndigbo in the Diaspora, Eze Nwabueze Ohazulike, OON, who passed away recently. His final Ofala was held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at his New Oko Oba residence in Lagos State.
Chief Uzoh recalled that Eze Ohazulike was a compassionate Igbo leader who elevated the celebration of Igbo culture to its highest level.
“Through the annual New Yam Festival, which he celebrated with pomp and pageantry, many Igbos living outside Igboland were able to stay connected with their culture through him,” Uzoh said.
He noted that, in line with the mandate given to him by Eze Igbo Gburugburu, Ikemba Odumegwu Ojukwu, to institutionalize Igbo leadership across the federation, the late Ohazulike succeeded in rallying other Igbo leaders, resulting in what is now known as the Eze Igbo phenomenon.
“From Lagos, Eze Ohazulike was able to establish and inaugurate Igbo ezeship throughout Nigeria, Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean. It is no surprise that the Obasanjo administration honoured him with the prestigious national award of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON),” he added.
“As he will be laid to rest in his hometown, Ihiala, Anambra State, I pray that God grants his family the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” Chief Uzoh concluded.
