Ogun Lawmaker Hails FG’s Badagry–Sokoto Superhighway Project
A lawmaker from Ogun State, Mr. Gboyega Isiaka, has described the ongoing Badagry–Sokoto Superhighway as a major economic breakthrough capable of transforming Nigeria’s border communities and redefining the South-West’s role in national and regional trade.
Isiaka, who represents Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and chairs the House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development, said the project would integrate long-neglected border towns into Nigeria’s economic mainstream.
According to him, the highway’s passage through Owode-Afon in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area is particularly significant, as it is expected to stimulate local commerce, enhance agricultural value chains, and attract fresh investments to Ogun’s border communities.
The federal legislator explained that the 1,068-kilometre Badagry–Sokoto Superhighway stretches from Illela in Sokoto State to Badagry in Lagos State, traversing seven states and providing a strategic land bridge between the North-West and the South-West.
Isiaka commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiating what he described as a bold and forward-looking infrastructure project, noting that the highway would function as a vital economic corridor linking northern agricultural belts with southern ports, markets, and export hubs.
He expressed confidence that, when completed, the superhighway would deepen regional integration, boost cross-border trade, and unlock new economic opportunities for communities along its route.
