LASG Disburses Eko Cares Financial Assistance to 626 Vulnerable Residents
The Lagos State Government, through the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, has presented financial assistance cheques to 626 beneficiaries under the Eko Cares Financial Assistance Programme, reaffirming its commitment to social inclusion and the welfare of vulnerable residents.
The cheque presentation ceremony was held at the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.
Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Dr. Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen, said the Eko Cares Financial Assistance Programme was established to provide relief and support for vulnerable residents, including small-scale business owners, persons living with disabilities, and individuals facing financial hardship.
He noted that the initiative reflects the Lagos State Government’s determination to ensure that no resident is left behind in its pursuit of inclusive development and improved social welfare.
Dr. Tajudeen disclosed that 626 beneficiaries would receive financial assistance in the latest disbursement, describing it as the highest number recorded in a single phase of the programme this year.
He urged recipients to utilise the funds for their intended purposes, particularly in expanding businesses, addressing pressing needs, or investing in productive ventures capable of improving their livelihoods.
He added that the Office would continue to monitor the impact of the intervention to ensure it achieves its objectives.
According to him, the programme has continued to reach deserving beneficiaries across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), underscoring the government’s commitment to people-centred policies that promote social inclusion, economic empowerment and improved living standards.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Engr. Sholabomi Shasore, encouraged beneficiaries to enrol in the Ilera Eko Health Insurance Scheme, describing it as an affordable and sustainable means of accessing quality healthcare.
She explained that participation in the scheme would significantly reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses while enabling the state government to optimise healthcare spending and channel more resources into other social intervention programmes. She urged beneficiaries to take advantage of the health insurance scheme and other government initiatives aimed at improving residents’ welfare and quality of life.
As part of the programme, participants were also sensitised on various Lagos State Government policies and social intervention initiatives designed to enhance their socio-economic well-being. The session highlighted available opportunities in empowerment, healthcare, education, employment and civic engagement.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Adebayo Hammed Olanrewaju said he learned about the programme through a community engagement exercise. He explained that he sought assistance after his shop, his primary source of livelihood, was burgled, resulting in significant financial losses.
He described the intervention as timely, saying it would help him revive his small-scale business.
Another beneficiary, Mr. Kennedy Eze-Nwachukwu, expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government, noting that the financial support would boost his poultry business.
He encouraged other residents to take advantage of the programme, describing it as genuine and impactful.
Similarly, Mrs. Chindinma Nzeka said the assistance would enable her to offset her son’s medical bills while supporting her family’s efforts to establish a small-scale business for sustainable income.
