Imo Govt to Boost Economy with Dredging of Orashi River
Owerri, Imo State โ The Imo State Government has announced plans to dredge the Orashi River, a project it says will accelerate economic growth and reposition the state as a major business hub in Nigeria.
Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie, disclosed this during an interactive session with journalists in Owerri on Monday. He described the initiative as one of Governor Hope Uzodimmaโs flagship projects, with the potential to expand business opportunities in Imo State far beyond what is currently obtainable in Lagos.

โThe dredging of the Orashi River is a transformative project that will turn around the fortunes of our state. Once completed, the volume of businesses in Imo will surpass what happens in Lagos,โ Anyaehie said.
In addition to the river dredging, Anyaehie highlighted the establishment of the state-owned Orashi Electricity Company, designed to provide uninterrupted power supply and stimulate industrial development.
He also praised the governorโs health insurance scheme, which he described as both functional and lifesaving. According to him, the programme has provided free access to quality healthcare for enrollees, citing the case of a young rape survivor who underwent a successful caesarean section without incurring any cost.
On workersโ welfare, Anyaehie commended the upward review of the minimum wage for civil servants from โฆ70,000 to โฆ104,000. He also noted the administrationโs ongoing efforts to tackle power outages across the state.
The Chief of Staff urged media practitioners to support the Uzodimma administration in delivering more democratic dividends, stressing that partisan politics should not obstruct the stateโs progress.
