Former VP Osinbajo Bids Dr. Adesina Farewell After 10 Years as AfDB President

Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire — Former Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, on Tuesday bid farewell to Dr. Akinwumi Adesina as he completed his decade-long tenure as President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

In his remarks, Prof. Osinbajo recalled the historic moment of Dr. Adesina’s inauguration:

“Ten years ago, on September 1, 2015, I stood in this very hall in Abidjan as Vice President of Nigeria to witness the inauguration of my brother and friend, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, as President of the African Development Bank. Today, a decade later, I returned to the same podium to celebrate his final day in office after ten remarkable years of visionary leadership at the Bank.”

Prof. Osinbajo noted that he was joined by several dignitaries at the farewell event, including the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite (representing the President of Nigeria), the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, the Governor of Oyo State, HE Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Plateau State, HE Caleb Muftang, the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, HE Noimot Salako-Oyedele, and the Oniru of Iruland, HRH Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, who once served as Lagos State’s Commissioner for Agriculture.

The former Vice President also expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality of Dr. Adesina’s wife, Yemisi Adesina, as the ceremony marked the end of a decade of impactful leadership at the AfDB.
