Troops Repel Terrorist Infiltration in Monguno, Lose Commanding Officer to IED Ambush
Troops of Sector 3, Joint Task Force (North East), under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have successfully repelled an isolated terrorist infiltration attempt at the Charlie 13 location in Monguno, Borno State.
The attack, which occurred late on April 12, 2026, triggered a fierce exchange of gunfire as troops engaged the insurgents with superior firepower. The terrorists were ultimately forced to retreat, while the troops maintained firm control of the position.
However, the operation recorded a tragic setback. The Commanding Officer, who had moved towards the frontline to personally assess the situation and reinforce his troops, encountered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The explosion severely damaged his vehicle, resulting in his death alongside six other gallant soldiers.
In a statement, the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, described the late Commanding Officer as a symbol of exemplary military leadership.
According to him, the officer’s actions embodied the highest traditions of service—marked by courage, selflessness, and a steadfast commitment to leading from the front. His decision to advance towards his men despite evident danger underscored his deep sense of duty and unwavering dedication to their welfare and operational success.
Operation HADIN KAI expressed profound grief over the loss, paying tribute to the fallen personnel for their ultimate sacrifice in defence of the nation. The statement noted that their bravery and service will remain indelible in the memory of the Armed Forces and a grateful nation.
