Troops neutralise terrorists in Benue
Troops of Sector 1 under Operation WHIRL STROKE have neutralised two suspected terrorists and recovered automatic weapons during a combined confidence-building and fighting patrol along the Katsina-Ala–Zaki Biam Road.
According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, the success followed credible intelligence provided by local residents. Acting swiftly, the troops mobilised to the identified location in collaboration with operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard.
On arrival, the troops made contact with the suspected bandits, leading to a brief but decisive engagement. Two of the terrorists were neutralised, while others reportedly escaped into the surrounding bush with possible gunshot wounds.
A subsequent exploitation of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a pair of green camouflage uniform believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
The Force Commander of Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, commended the gallantry and professionalism displayed by the troops, noting that their proactive posture continues to yield measurable gains in the fight against terrorism and banditry in the state.
He also acknowledged the critical role played by members of the local communities, whose timely and actionable intelligence contributed significantly to the operation’s success. Emphasising the importance of sustained cooperation, he assured residents of the military’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
Major General Gara further urged troops to maintain close synergy with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders, stressing that collective resolve remains indispensable to achieving lasting security and stability across the joint operational area.
