Troops foil abduction attempts, rescue 10 victims in Zamfara
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have foiled two separate abduction attempts and rescued 10 victims at different locations in Zamfara State.
The operation, which took place on September 27, followed timely interventions by troops of Sector 2 in Maru and Tsafe Local Government Areas of the state.
In Maru LGA, troops received information that terrorists had abducted villagers at Kade Daba Village, Kanoma District. They swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the terrorists, rescuing three victims.
Further exploitation of the area led to the rescue of an additional victim, bringing the number of victims rescued in the operation to four.
In a separate incident the same day, troops conducting a picketing operation along the Tsafe–Funtua Road in Tsafe LGA heard sporadic gunshots ahead of their position at Kwanoni.
The troops immediately moved towards the location and encountered the terrorists withdrawing through the surrounding high ground. They engaged the terrorists, forcing them to flee the area in disarray.
According to a statement by the Media Information Officer, JTF North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the terrorists had, before the arrival of the troops, set a Sharon vehicle ablaze while attempting to abduct its occupants.
Fortunately, the occupants escaped before the vehicle was completely engulfed by fire.
Danja said the troops also rescued six persons from another vehicle that lost control as a result of the sporadic gunshots. The affected vehicle was subsequently towed off the main road to facilitate the free flow of traffic.
The Theatre Commander, JTF NW OPFY, commended the troops for their vigilance, swift response and professionalism in protecting citizens along major routes and communities within the task force’s area of responsibility.
He reaffirmed the resolve of the JTF NW OPFY to sustain offensive operations against terrorists and deny them freedom of action across the North West.
The Theatre Commander also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information on suspicious movements and activities to the nearest security agency or through appropriate official channels.
