‘Nigerians Must Go’: Senate condemn Protest In Ghana
…Commend NIDCOM and foreign affairs ministry for timely intervention
Following a series of protests tagged ‘Nigeria Must go’ in Ghana, the Nigerian Senate Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) has condemned action describing it as obstacles towards West Africa sub regions integration
The statement was issued on Tuesday, by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), following the circulation of a viral video on social media showing a group of Ghanaians protesting and calling for the expulsion of Nigerians from the country.
The protesters accused Nigerians of engaging in conduct that allegedly violates Ghanaian cultural and societal norms.
The Senate Committee also commended the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, for what it described as their “timely and diplomatic handling of the situation.
”The Committee praised both the Nigerian and Ghanaian High Commissioners for their collaborative efforts in dousing tensions and restoring peace and orderliness in the country.
Meanwhile, Country Director to Eze Ndigbo Ghana, Mr Njoku Macdonald Obinna, in a statement issued on behalf of Eze Chukwudi Ihenetu equally commended the Nigerian Minister of State Foreign Affairs, Lady Bianca Ojukwu and Nigeria Diaspora Commission CEO, Abike Dabiri-Erewa and Nigeria High Commission, Ghana for their prompt response to deescalate the tension generated by the protest adding that Nigerians are law abiding and would do everything possible to maintain peace in Ghana
