LSCCC, Agege LGA Partner to Strengthen Disaster Management and Community Safety
Lagos, Nigeria — The Lagos State Command and Control Centre (LSCCC) has entered into a strategic partnership with Agege Local Government Area (LGA) to enhance disaster preparedness and strengthen community safety.
The collaboration was formalised during a courtesy visit by the Acting Executive Chairman of Agege LGA, Hon. Vinod Abdulganiu Obasa, to the LSCCC headquarters. Discussions focused on disaster risk reduction, intelligence sharing, and rapid emergency response.
Strengthening Local Capacity
The General Manager of LSCCC, Mr. Femi Giwa, praised Hon. Obasa for his proactive leadership, noting that local governments are the closest tier of governance to residents and serve as the first line of defence in times of crisis.
He emphasised that local authorities are uniquely positioned to identify community-specific hazards and vulnerabilities and can play a critical role in building resilience.
Mr. Giwa recommended key steps for Agege LGA, including:
- Procuring light rescue equipment for faster grassroots response.
- Establishing a Local Emergency Management Committee for structured disaster risk management.
- Creating a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) to ensure swift action during emergencies.
He further pledged LSCCC’s support in training and enhancing the capacity of these local structures to ensure coordinated and effective emergency response.
Shared Commitment to Public Safety
The partnership underscores a mutual commitment to proactive governance, improved service delivery, and sustainable disaster management. Both LSCCC and Agege LGA will collaborate on identifying vulnerabilities, streamlining communication, and strengthening preparedness.
The LSCCC, custodian of Lagos’ toll-free emergency numbers 112 and 767, reaffirmed its dedication to building strategic partnerships that advance safety, resilience, and sustainable urban development.
