Lagos Water Corporation Engages Akilo Community on Restored Water Supply
The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) has taken its stakeholders’ engagement to Akilo Community in Ikeja, reaffirming its promise to provide potable water for at least 10,000 households.
The meeting, held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the Akilo Waterworks, was part of efforts to strengthen community involvement as the rehabilitation of the water facility nears completion.
Speaking at the engagement, the Managing Director of LWC, Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani, represented by Mrs. Adepeju Isola, Director of Community Commercial and Customer Relations, disclosed that production and distribution of potable water in Akilo and its environs would soon begin.
He urged residents to connect to the system, noting that the project, supported by WaterAid Nigeria, was designed to guarantee steady water access.
“Production will be done consistently, and we will ensure an adequate water supply to every home,” Engr. Tijani assured.
He further encouraged the community to report challenges such as burst pipes, vandalism, or illegal connections, while highlighting flexible options for billing, metering, or kiosk purchases.

Also speaking, Dr. Adebayo Alao, State Programme Lead, WaterAid, assured residents of sustainability, urging them to pay bills regularly to keep the system functional.
The Acting Executive Secretary of the Lagos Water Regulatory Commission, Mr. Babatunde Olowu, pledged fair oversight, while the Regional Business Manager, Mrs. Yetunde Odebunmi, revealed that Akilo is the first waterworks in the Lagos Northern Region to be rehabilitated.
She announced that test production will commence on September 1, 2025, running for 24 hours to assess equipment performance before full handover. However, she advised residents not to consume water produced within the first 48 hours of the test run.
Responding, the Community Chairman, Pastor Ewuosho, thanked the Corporation, urging kiosk managers and residents to take the project seriously and ensure its success.
The rehabilitation of Akilo Waterworks, which began in February 2025, is expected to be formally recommissioned next month.
