Lagos State implements digital system for efficient planning approvals
As part of its statewide community outreach, the Lagos State Government has extended its stakeholders’ engagement on the Electronic Physical Planning Processing System (EPPPS) to drive the adoption of a digital system for efficient planning approvals.
The engagement, held at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, is part of the ongoing zonal sensitisation on the EPPPS across the State.
Declaring the event open, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, said the project is designed to benefit both the government and the public.
Dr. Olumide explained that the initiative is aimed at advancing Lagos through the adoption of electronic systems for building approvals, with the goal of making the planning process more efficient and beneficial to all. “Users must meet requirements, including tax status, to access the system,” he said.
In his charge to the community, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical Planning, Tpl. Wasiu Olayinka, encouraged stakeholders and professionals in the built environment to embrace and utilise the new system, which enhances transparency, accountability and productivity in the planning process. He added that the initiative represents a re-engineering of the physical planning approval process.
Addressing participants, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Taxation and Revenue, Mr. Opeyemi Ogunbo, emphasised that the vision for a #Greater Lagos drives ongoing reforms across various sectors, adding that the system is designed to ensure safe, orderly and sustainable development.
Speaking on the benefits of the EPPPS, Guest Lecturer, Professor Timothy Nubi stated that collaboration among professionals and relevant agencies is crucial for successful digitisation, urging stakeholders to adopt the use of the EPPPS.
