Lagos DSVA,Ford Foundation takes Sexual and Gender Based Violence sensitisation campaign to Apapa

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), in strategic partnership with the Ford Foundation, has intensified efforts to eradicate Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) across Lagos State.

The DSVA recently conducted a door-to-door community sensitisation campaign in Apapa Local Government Area designed to raise awareness on the prevention of SGBV, encourage survivors to speak up, and connect community members with available reporting channels and support services provided by the State Government through the Agency.

The outreach covered key areas, including Apapa General Hospital, St. Louis Medical Centre, the Apapa Family Support Unit, Liverpool Market, Liverpool Motor Park, Workers’ Mosque, and several residential locations such as Plateau Street, Creek Road, Liverpool Road, and Azare Crescent.

Community Development Associations like Agbajowo, Railway, and Iwajowa also participated in the exercise, while over 60,000 residents, including traders, transport workers, religious leaders, and community members, were sensitised.

Health institutions pledged stronger support for survivors, while the Family Support Unit was further engaged to enhance case reporting and referrals. Information materials were distributed widely, and CDAs committed to ongoing grassroots advocacy. Religious leaders and market representatives also expressed their willingness to amplify the message.

This engagement reaffirmed DSVA’s commitment to a coordinated, community-driven approach to eliminate SGBV in Lagos State.
