JTF Southeast Rescues Five Kidnapped Travellers in Anambra
Troops of the Joint Task Force Southeast (JTF SE), operating under Operation UDO KA, have rescued five travellers abducted along the 9th Mile axis within the 82 Division Area of Responsibility.
The rescue followed a rapid response to a distress call received at about 6:55 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026, reporting a suspected attack by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, on commuters travelling towards Anambra State.
According to military sources, troops swiftly mobilised to the scene and engaged the armed elements with coordinated firepower and tactical manoeuvres. The superior response forced the attackers to abandon their captives and flee the area.
All five victims were rescued unharmed, and their vehicle was recovered intact.
In the aftermath of the operation, troops intensified patrols and sustained area domination efforts to prevent any regrouping by the fleeing suspects. Security forces are also tracking the perpetrators as part of ongoing operations aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of action across the region.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and securing critical routes within the Southeast, assuring residents and commuters of sustained efforts to dismantle terrorist and criminal networks.
Members of the public were urged to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, noting that community cooperation remains essential to achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
