Gunmen Abduct Pregnant Woman in Akure Community
Residents of Ayede Community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State were gripped by fear on Tuesday evening after armed gunmen carried out a brazen attack that resulted in the abduction of a pregnant woman.
The attackers reportedly stormed the community—situated close to the Federal Secretariat Complex in Akure—around 7:00 p.m., firing gunshots into the air and forcing residents to flee for safety. The sudden assault shattered the evening calm, plunging the neighbourhood into panic.
A video that went viral on Wednesday captured an elderly resident, Pa Ogunleye Mese, recounting the ordeal. According to him, the gunmen attempted to abduct both him and his wife, but they narrowly escaped.
He explained that a pregnant woman, later identified as Mrs. Mary Jesulayomi, had come to their shop to make purchases when the assailants struck. Pa Mese said his wife was initially seized alongside the pregnant woman but managed to break free, while the gunmen escaped with Mrs. Jesulayomi.
As of the time of filing this report, residents remain anxious, calling on security agencies to intensify patrols and ensure the safe rescue of the abducted woman.
