FG Declares Free Technical Education in All Federal Technical Colleges
Abuja, Nigeria — In a landmark decision, the Federal Government of Nigeria has declared that technical education will now be completely free in all Federal Technical Colleges (FTCs) nationwide.
The Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, announced the policy in Abuja, stating that the initiative is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at removing financial barriers and expanding access to quality education.
What the Free Package Covers
The free technical education package is comprehensive, covering:
- Tuition and vocational charges
- Boarding and feeding
- Uniforms and exercise books
- Textbooks and digital learning tools
- Stationery, ID cards, and prospectus
- Medical services and insurance
- Utilities, security, and extra lessons
Alausa emphasised that these provisions ensure equal access to learning opportunities for students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Equal Access to Education
According to the Minister, the decision reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive education and the development of skilled manpower.
“This move is about breaking down barriers. No child should be denied education because of financial hardship. With this initiative, every Nigerian child has a chance to acquire practical skills for the future,” he said.
The announcement has been hailed by stakeholders as a transformative policy that will boost technical education and contribute to Nigeria’s long-term development.
