In a major political realignment, all eight members of the House of Representatives from Enugu State have formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a decisive shift in the state’s political landscape.

The latest development follows the defection of five lawmakers — Rt. Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, Hon. Anayo Onwuegbu, Rt. Hon. Martins Oke, Hon. Chidi Mark Obetta, and Rt. Hon. Dennis Agbo — from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. Their move now places Enugu’s entire representation in the House under the banner of the ruling party.

Governor Peter Mbah welcomed the lawmakers’ decision, describing it as a continuation of the “strategic realignment” he initiated when the state’s leadership moved to the APC on October 14.

“This development reflects our shared vision of transforming Enugu into Nigeria’s foremost destination for investment, innovation, and inclusive development,” Governor Mbah said. “It is not about party lines but about convergence — breaking free from partisan silos to build a stronger partnership for the good of our people.”

The governor expressed appreciation to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, and the House leadership for their warm reception of the Enugu delegation and their commitment to collaboration.

Political observers note that the move further cements the APC’s growing influence in the Southeast, positioning Enugu for closer alignment with federal policies and potential access to greater developmental support.
