6 Brigade relocates to Wukari, begins operations as Commander seeks royal blessings
The 6 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA)/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), has officially commenced operations in Wukari, Taraba State, following its relocation from Jalingo after the establishment of the 10 Division Nigerian Army Headquarters in the state capital.
The relocation, approved by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Nigerian Army’s operational presence and enhance the fight against insecurity across Taraba State.
Speaking separately to troops and members of the press, the Commander, 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, assured the people of Taraba State that the Brigade remained fully committed to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace within its area of responsibility.
Akaliro said the relocation would not alter the Brigade’s mandate, stressing that the formation would build on its existing operational gains while intensifying efforts to address emerging security challenges.
In a statement, the Acting Assistant Director, 6 Brigade Public Relations, Lieutenant Umar Muhammed, said the Brigade would deploy a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic approaches in its operations.
He urged officers and soldiers to remain disciplined, professional and committed to their constitutional responsibilities.
According to him, the Brigade would continue to work closely with relevant stakeholders and communities to consolidate the peace and security recorded across its area of responsibility.
“The mandate and goals of the Brigade remain the same, despite the change in location. We will continue to do everything within our capacity to protect the people and their property and ensure that the peace being enjoyed in Taraba State is sustained,” he said.
As part of activities marking the commencement of operations in its new location, the Brigade Commander paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Dr. Ishaku Adda Ali, the Aku-Uka of Wukari and Chairman of the Taraba State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, at his palace in Wukari.
The visit provided an opportunity for the Commander to formally announce the Brigade’s presence in Wukari, pay homage to the traditional institution and seek the royal blessing and support of the people of the land as the Brigade settles into its new operational base.
Akaliro expressed appreciation to the Aku-Uka and the people of Wukari for the warm reception and support extended to the Brigade since its relocation.
He assured the monarch that the Brigade would remain steadfast in its responsibility to protect lives and property and promote peace and security throughout Taraba State.
Responding, the Aku-Uka of Wukari and Chairman of the Taraba State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Isiyaku Adda Ali, welcomed Brigadier General Akaliro and the officers and soldiers of the 6 Brigade to Wukari.
The monarch assured the Brigade of the continued support and cooperation of the people of Wukari, saying that the traditional institution and the people would work with the military to enable it to effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities.
To further signal its operational readiness and reassure residents of its commitment to their safety, the Brigade conducted a route march through Wukari and adjoining areas.
The exercise provided an opportunity for residents to witness the physical preparedness, discipline and combat readiness of the troops, while also reinforcing public confidence in the Brigade’s presence in the area.
Activities marking the commencement of operations featured a presentation of the Quarter Guard, an address to troops, prayers, presentation of souvenirs and group photographs.
The relocation of the 6 Brigade to Wukari is expected to further strengthen the Nigerian Army’s operational capabilities in the southern part of Taraba State while complementing the activities of the newly established 10 Division Nigerian Army in Jalingo.
