Operation FANSAN YAMMA Foils Multiple Kidnap Attempts, Rescues Federal Polytechnic Rector in Zamfara

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have recorded another major operational success after foiling multiple kidnap attempts and rescuing the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda, Dr Aminu Yusuf, in Zamfara State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of July 28, 2026, when troops responded to a distress call reporting terrorist activities around Tsohon-Tasha Street in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area. The terrorists had invaded the residence of the Rector, killing his private security guard and injuring another resident before attempting to abduct Dr Yusuf and members of his family.

The troops arrived swiftly and engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to flee and abandon their victims. The Rector and his family were rescued unharmed.

In a separate operation on the same day, troops on night patrol responded to another distress call from Tungan Dorawa community in Barkeji Village, where terrorists were attempting to abduct residents. Despite the difficult terrain, which initially slowed their movement, the troops pursued the fleeing terrorists, engaged them in a firefight and successfully foiled the abduction.

In a statement signed by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the troops simultaneously confronted another group of terrorists in the same community who were attempting to kidnap a prominent businessman, Alhaji Azaria. The prompt intervention forced the terrorists to flee, abandoning their mission. Alhaji Azaria, along with 21 other civilians abducted from neighbouring houses, was rescued safely.

In a related development, the troops arrested a suspected terrorist informant, Falalu Yusuf, 45, who is believed to have collaborated with the terrorists. He has been handed over to the relevant authorities for investigation and further necessary action.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the vigilance, courage and professionalism of the troops, while reassuring residents of its unwavering commitment to restoring lasting peace and security in Zamfara State and the wider North-West.
