Operation ENDURING PEACE Intensifies Security Measures to Curb Tensions in Jos
Brown Chimezie,
In a proactive effort to prevent further escalation of the ongoing crisis in Jos North, troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE on Friday commenced a comprehensive stop-and-search operation across the Jos metropolis.
The strategic intervention, according to the military, forms part of wider efforts to restore normalcy and guarantee the safety of lives and property across Plateau State.
In a statement issued by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh,
Media Information Officer,
Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE, the heightened security presence has already recorded significant results.
He disclosed that troops intercepted and arrested two suspects, while also recovering one fabricated AK-47 rifle, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one pump-action gun, and a cutlass.
The arrests and recoveries were made during targeted operations conducted across identified flashpoints and transit corridors in Jos North and Jos South, including Dadinkowa, Old Airport Junction, Tudun Wada, and the State Low-Cost Housing Estate.
In a related development, troops also responded swiftly to a distress call over sporadic gunfire in the Yelwa Cattle Market area of Shendam.
On arrival, the troops reportedly came under indications of armed activity, forcing the unidentified gunmen to flee into nearby bushes under sustained tactical pressure.
A subsequent sweep of the area led to the discovery of two local residents who had sustained gunshot injuries. The victims were immediately evacuated to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.
The Command reiterated its unwavering commitment to maintaining a robust security presence across Plateau State, stressing that ongoing operations would continue with greater intensity until all threats to peace and public safety are effectively neutralised.
It further assured residents that every necessary measure is being taken to restore lasting peace and stability in all affected communities.
