Gov Otti to Relocate Abia Agriculture Ministry to Umudike
Umuahia, Abia State — Governor Alex Otti, OFR has disclosed plans to relocate the Abia State Ministry of Agriculture from its current headquarters at Bank Road, Umuahia, to Umudike, in order to provide a more conducive environment for productivity and innovation.
The governor made this known on September 23, 2025, during an unscheduled visit to the ministry, shortly after swearing in two new commissioners and a Special Adviser on Agriculture in a minor cabinet reshuffle.
Upon arrival, Governor Otti was received by the Commissioner for Lands, Hon. Chaka Chukwumerije, and the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Cliff Agbaeze, who conducted him around the ministry’s premises.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Njoku Ukoha, Governor Otti expressed dissatisfaction with the current condition of the buildings, describing them as unfit for optimal service delivery. He assured staff that they would soon be moved to a location that encourages greater productivity.
“As a man of quality and taste, Dr. Otti was not satisfied with what he saw. He told the workers they would be moved to a more conducive place so they could be productive enough to produce what could feed Abia and Nigeria at large,” the statement read.
Relocation to Umudike
Governor Otti revealed that the new location would be Umudike, which also houses the Abia State University Faculty of Agriculture. He added that the state government had concluded plans to relocate the Faculty of Law from Umuahia back to Uturu, the permanent site of the university.
He further directed the Commissioner for Agriculture to immediately assess the Umudike site and begin preparations for the ministry’s relocation.
Staff Welcome the Move
The announcement was met with excitement and joy by ministry staff, who openly expressed their delight at seeing the governor visit their premises and commit to providing a better workplace.
