LSWMO Seals Off Residential Buildings in Abule Egba, Lekki, and Eti-Osa Over Environmental Degradation
The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has intensified its enforcement drive against environmental violations, sealing residential buildings in Abule Egba, Lekki, and Eti-Osa for discharging raw sewage into public drains.
The affected properties located at 11 Victoria Onipede Street, Abule Egba, and 2 Tunde Fisayo Street, Lekki Eti-Osa, were shut down after investigations revealed that their occupants were deliberately pumping untreated sewage into public drains, creating a public nuisance and exposing residents to serious health risks.
General Manager of LSWMO, Engr. Adefemi Afolabi, said the illegal practice contravened public health and environmental safety standards. He explained that instead of engaging accredited sewage dislodgers to evacuate their septic tanks, the perpetrators resorted to crude methods that pollute the environment and spread communicable diseases.
“The Enforcement and Compliance Officers of the Agency took time to investigate these properties and gathered verifiable evidence before carrying out the clampdown. The State has zero tolerance for environmental pollution and degradation,” Afolabi stated.
He urged Lagos residents to embrace proper wastewater management and hygiene practices, stressing that any property or facility found violating environmental laws would face strict sanctions under the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law 2017.
The GM further appealed to members of the public to report environmental infractions that could endanger health and well-being. Citizens can reach the Agency through official hotlines 08022022397, 07025332163, or via its social media platforms.
