VP Shettima to Represent President Tinubu at 80th UN General Assembly in New York
Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for New York to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), scheduled for Monday, September 22 to Sunday, September 28, 2025.
Senator Shettima will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, at the global gathering and is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement during the high-level general debates.
Beyond the main plenary, the Vice President will participate in a series of strategic side events, engaging global leaders on issues central to Nigeria’s development priorities, including peace, security, economic growth, and sustainable development.
Notably, Shettima will also announce Nigeria’s new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement at the UN’s special session on climate, reaffirming the country’s commitment to climate action, energy transition, and environmental sustainability.
The 80th UNGA convenes against the backdrop of global challenges ranging from climate change to economic recovery, with Nigeria expected to play a pivotal role in shaping international consensus on pressing issues.
