LASRAB Holds Staff Retreat to Drive Innovation in Records and Archives Management
The Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB) has reaffirmed its commitment to innovation and sustainable growth with a two-day staff retreat themed “Revolutionising Records and Archives Management: Embracing Innovation for Sustainable Growth” held at Watercress Hotel, Ikeja.
The retreat highlighted the critical need for modern approaches in records management and archival preservation to secure LASRAB’s relevance in a rapidly evolving world.
In his goodwill message, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, praised LASRAB for safeguarding Lagos State’s history and cultural identity. He underscored the importance of proper recordkeeping, stressing that “people who do not understand their history do not know where they are coming from.”
Delivering her opening address, Ms. Toyin Ogunlana, Director-General of LASRAB, urged staff to embrace innovation, rethink outdated practices, and align with continuous learning. “To remain relevant, we need to adopt innovation and ensure LASRAB contributes meaningfully to the sustainable development of Lagos State,” she said.
The retreat featured expert-led sessions on ethics and communication for improved service delivery, activating archival collections to nurture community well-being, and strengthening governance through copyright, access, and preservation. These sessions reinforced the role of technology, knowledge upgrades, and archival skills in meeting global best practices.
Beyond training, the retreat provided opportunities for team bonding, with engaging activities designed to foster unity, collaboration, and renewed energy. It also served as a reflective pause for staff to realign strategies with the Lagos State THEMES Plus Agenda, geared towards building a 21st-century economy.
The LASRAB Staff Retreat stands as a testament to the Bureau’s dedication to excellence, innovation, and sustainability in records and archives management.
