Students Escape Death as Government School Building Collapses in Ikorodu

Students of Odokerere High School, Ikorodu, Lagos State, narrowly escaped death on Thursday after a classroom building collapsed while lessons were ongoing, raising fresh concerns over the state of public school infrastructure.
The affected school, owned by the Lagos State Government, reportedly caved in during class hours. Fortunately, no fatalities were recorded, as the pupils were said to have fled the classroom moments before the structure gave way, preventing serious injuries.

A video of the incident, which has since gone viral on social media platform X, was shared by a user identified as @omoelerinjare. In the footage, a narrator captures the aftermath of the collapse and voices alarm over the potential tragedy that could have occurred had the students not acted swiftly.

The incident has reignited public debate about the safety and structural integrity of government-owned school buildings, particularly those housing young learners during school hours.
