The Chief of the South African Air Force (SAAF), Lieutenant General Wiseman Simo Mbambo, on Tuesday paid an official visit to the Headquarters Tactical Air Command (TAC), Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Makurdi.

The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, enhance professional cooperation, and share operational experiences between the Nigerian Air Force and the South African Air Force. Lieutenant General Mbambo arrived in the company of the Chief of Operations, Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Francis Edosa, and was received by the Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command, Air Vice Marshal Patrick Obeya, alongside other senior officers of the Command.

During the visit, the delegation received a detailed briefing on the Command’s structure, roles, and contributions to the defence of Nigeria’s airspace, particularly in air surveillance, radar coverage, and support for internal security operations.

The visit also featured a static and aerial display at the 131 Engineering Group, showcasing the technical ingenuity, maintenance capability, and operational precision of NAF personnel.

Impressed by the level of professionalism observed, Lieutenant General Mbambo commended the Nigerian Air Force for its commitment to excellence and innovation.

In his words, “The Nigerian Air Force has demonstrated remarkable professionalism and growth, reflecting Africa’s capacity to develop its own airpower solutions. Collaboration between our Air Forces is vital to building a safer and more secure continent.”

In his response, the Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command, Air Vice Marshal Patrick Obeya, described the visit as “a symbol of unity and professional solidarity between two leading Air Forces on the African continent.

” He added that the engagement reinforces shared values of service, discipline, and continuous improvement, stating that, “Our collaboration opens new avenues for joint training, indigenous technological development, and operational synergy in addressing the evolving security landscape across Africa.

” The visit underscored the enduring friendship and strategic partnership between Nigeria and South Africa, reflecting a shared vision for peace, progress, and collective security across the continent.
