Lagos to Get Leather and Footwear Factory Soon — Commissioner Ajigbotafe
The Lagos State Government has announced plans to commission a newly completed Leather Hub in Matori, designed to boost local manufacturing, footwear production, and skills development.
The Honourable Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Hon. Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe, led an inspection of the facility in collaboration with the Ministries of Works and Infrastructure to assess its readiness for launch.
The Leather Hub is a state-of-the-art centre that will focus on leather processing, footwear production, and vocational training for artisans. It is expected to empower Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), enhance local craftsmanship, and create sustainable jobs.
During the inspection, Commissioner Ajigbotafe emphasized that the facility represents the administration’s drive for skill development, economic diversification, and industrial expansion.
“The Leather Hub, Matori, is not just an industrial facility; it is a bold statement of our administration’s commitment to skill development, economic diversification, and job creation. Its commissioning will mark a new chapter in the growth of Lagos’ manufacturing sector,” he said.

The visit also highlighted post-commissioning strategies, including market access, technology integration, and continuous training programmes, to position Lagos artisans for global competitiveness.
When operational, the Leather Hub will reinforce Lagos State’s reputation as a hub for innovation, craftsmanship, and industrial growth, offering entrepreneurs a world-class platform to thrive.
