Lagos Education Ministry Probes Viral Video of Students’ Alleged Misconduct at Ejigbo School
The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MBSE) has launched an investigation into a viral video showing students allegedly smoking and drinking alcohol in a dormitory believed to belong to Excel College, Ejigbo.
In a statement, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, described the incident as disturbing and contrary to the values and behavioural standards of Lagos State’s education system.
“The State Government views this incident with the utmost seriousness. The Ministry, through the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), has commenced a thorough investigation into the matter,” the Commissioner said.
According to him, a monitoring and investigation team has been dispatched to verify the authenticity of the video, confirm the identities of the students involved, and assess the level of institutional oversight.
Preliminary engagements with the school management are underway to gather relevant facts. The Commissioner stressed that any school found culpable will face sanctions in line with Lagos State’s education policies and regulations.
He reaffirmed that the government places high priority on the safety, discipline, and moral well-being of learners across the state.
“We remain committed to ensuring that all learning environments are safe, disciplined, and conducive to both academic and moral development,” Alli-Balogun added.
