The Onyendu of Ejigbo LCDA in Lagos State and Bobaselu of Ejigbo Land, Dr Alex S.M. Nwoye, has commended the Council of South-East Traditional Rulers for the successful inauguration and public presentation of Ndindu Ndigbo in Lagos State.

He said that even before the formal inauguration, he had willingly accepted the Onyendu title and aligned with the policy when Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the South-East Council of Traditional Rulers introduced the Onyendu nomenclature.

Onyendu Nwoye, who is also Duru Ochiriozua of Uga, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, said the public presentation had effectively laid to rest the controversy surrounding the appropriate titles for Igbo traditional rulers in the Diaspora.

While thanking Ndigbo in Ejigbo for turning out in large numbers to honour him at the event, Dr Nwoye urged them to continue to maintain good conduct and cordial relations with their host community.

Speaking on his role as Onyendu, Nwoye said he had continued to promote unity among Igbo residents in Ejigbo through the annual New Yam Festival.

“During the festival, many Igbo who are unable to travel home celebrate here in Lagos. This measure has further helped to inculcate Igbo cultural values in our children,” he said.
