The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division Nigerian Army, and Commander, Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Wunukhe Maxwell Dangana, on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, flagged off a tree-planting campaign at the Nigerian Army Training Centre, 3 Division Small Arms Range, Miango, Plateau State.

Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Dangana underscored the long-term benefits of tree planting, noting that while an individual may plant a tree, future generations stand to benefit from it. He explained that trees absorb harmful carbon dioxide and release oxygen into the atmosphere for the benefit of all.

A statement by Lieutenant Colonel Olumide Victor Olukoya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Division Nigerian Army, noted that the initiative reflects the importance of making sacrifices for generations yet unborn. He added that the campaign was designed to emphasise environmental protection and the need to maintain a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment within the Division’s facilities and training areas.

The GOC further explained that tree planting is essential for climate regulation, maintaining a conducive environment, and improving ecological infrastructure within the range. He described environmental conservation as a collective responsibility requiring the active participation and commitment of all personnel.

Major General Dangana highlighted the benefits of tree planting and preservation, including a cleaner and more serene environment, improved air quality, soil stabilisation, enhanced aesthetic value, and overall environmental well-being.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Tree Planting Committee, Colonel Adamu Iliya, expressed appreciation to the GOC and other participants for their support and active involvement. He also highlighted the significance of the campaign to environmental conservation efforts.

The event featured a practical tree-planting demonstration by a member of the committee, a group photograph to commemorate the occasion, and symbolic tree planting by the GOC and other commanders.
