Anambra Police Neutralise Armed Gang After Two-Hour Gun Duel at Enugwu Agidi Junction
The Anambra State Police Command has neutralised a five-man armed gang following a fierce two-hour gun battle at Enugwu Agidi Junction in Dunukofia Local Government Area.
The high-risk operation, carried out in the early hours of January 14, 2026, was executed by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, acting on credible intelligence. The suspects—allegedly involved in armed robbery, cult-related violence, and activities linked to a proscribed secessionist group—were strategically ambushed at the busy junction.

According to police sources, the encounter escalated swiftly when the suspects opened fire on operatives. Officers returned fire and maintained tactical control throughout the prolonged exchange. At the end of the operation, two members of the gang were fatally wounded, while three others sustained critical injuries and were subdued.
A cache of arms and incriminating items was recovered from the scene, including one T.06 rifle, two pump-action guns, 24 rounds of T.06 ammunition, 15 live cartridges, assorted criminal charms, a red cult beret, and a black Toyota Highlander reportedly used by the gang.
The police described the operation as a significant blow to organised criminal networks operating in the area, reaffirming their commitment to proactive intelligence-led policing and the protection of lives and property across the state.
