WHO Donates Vehicles and Equipment to Enugu Hospitals to Boost Healthcare
The World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), has donated vehicles, equipment, and other essential items to the Colleges of Nursing at Park Lane and Awgu in Enugu State, as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare training and service delivery.
The donated items include buses, generators, computers, smart electronic boards, photocopiers, and various nursing, laboratory, and hostel equipment—all aimed at enhancing the capacity of Enugu’s health institutions to train and equip future healthcare professionals.
Receiving the items, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State expressed profound appreciation to WHO and FCDO for their support and recognition of the state’s progress in health system reform.
“We are deeply grateful for this generous gesture and for the commendation from WHO, which described Enugu State’s strategic investments in healthcare as a model,” Governor Mbah said. “From our 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres and the Enugu International Hospital under construction to the digital transformation of health facilities across the state, we remain committed to building a resilient health system.”
He added that the partnership aligns perfectly with his administration’s vision to eradicate poverty and expand the state’s economy sevenfold through strategic human capital development.
“You have identified the most critical gaps, and your support is both timely and transformative. With our target to train at least 3,000 healthcare professionals annually, these tools will strengthen our training institutions and raise our standards,” he noted.
Governor Mbah reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in the well-being of the people through continuous infrastructure development in the health sector, including the construction of new hostels and classrooms in Colleges of Nursing—such as Oji River campus—and the completion of two new six-floor hospital blocks at the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital to deliver world-class healthcare services to Ndi Enugu.
